Share a field in multiple apps? I have a field that I would like to use across several apps - let's say "city" - as a text field - how can I do this?

The text field repeats itself across apps, and I now need to use it in another app. When I try this by adding a field, the field name is greyed-out, so I can't add it with a click. Until now, I have created that as a new field, but I am sure there must be a quicker way. However, it is a recurring field that I wish to use in other contexts in a nother app. For something like city, a dropdown shared between apps would be far too long and cumbersome

My recommendation is to create a "table" of cities; and to create relationships and cross-app relationships to share that list of data with other applications tables.  This also means that any characteristics you store in that table can also be shared using the relationship model.  You can even connect the table to a list of States; and create relationships to other tables for the States.  Then, using conditional relationships, you can limit the option of Cities the User can select from to be conditional on the State they've selected.

Your structure would be as follows:

States < Cities

States < Other Table

Cities < Other Table (conditional on [Related State])

You can make the States' table Key Field the name of each State.

This assumes you are not using a standard [Address] field type in your table to store addresses.
