Automation - record creation of child records for 2 parent records

I am working on converting from a slow template creation process to a faster method using Automations. I think it is possible but I am missing something somewhere and can't find the missing piece. Has anyone done this yet or have a suggestion?

3 tables - Projects, Items, Sites
Projects is a parent to both Items and Sites. Sites is also a parent of Items.
A Project would have a set of Items that would be a template of Items(marked as such) required for each Site. So when I create a Site I need the set of template Items replicated and attached to the Project and the new Site.
Also i need to be able to add many sites at the same time, not just one.
I can create the records but cannot get them attached to the Sites.

We too have some clunky implementations for similar use cases where we've kludged something together by different methods over the years.

I just recently came across a Dan Diebolt post that addresses the issue; I got this onto my team's agenda to investigate using this method to solve our templating problems. See if this gets you somewhere: https://community.quickbase.com/quickbase/topics/what-is-the-hylo-technique
