Button to perform calculations on only the records resulting from a dynamic filter search?

Here is an example of what I need:

We have a table report that we dynamically filter down to get to some desired result.   Let’s say we filter it and end up with seven records.  Now here is where we need help - Next, I want to press a button located somewhere on the page, and pressing it would do some calculations to the data associated with only those seven records.  The result of those calculations would then be displayed, most likely in a report of some kind.    I could then reset the first report and do a different search, this time let’s say it resulted in three records instead of seven, press the button, and it does the calculations for just those three records.  And so on.

Is this possible?

There may be an alternative approach to using the dynamic filters that might work.  You could have a record in another table where you would set some filters or criteria.  That record could have an embedded report of the resulting records and do calculations.

If there was no need for multi user concurrent access, the special record could be [Record ID#] = 1 and have a reference field on the detail table with a formula of 1 to carry down the filters based on a relationship.

if you did need concurrent access, i have a solution for that too.

You can do this with script. See question 1280505 for example. Sorry I am on tablet and can't cut and paste url.
