How do I create a Previous Status field?

I want to be able to compare the current customer status with their previous status, ie they are now Qualified but were New Lead before. I have created a Previous Status field and a form rule that states when the record is saved to change Previous Status to the value in Contact Status, but all that does is fill in the current status so both fields are identical.

If you want a rock solid solution that does not depend in form rules, then make a field called [Status Update] and set it to log changes. Then you will have a rock solid log of the changes.

Then in view mode and for reports use fields made from these formula fields to extract out the most recent change.


Parsing out from a Log Changes field

Most recent value (formula text field type)
Trim(Right([my update field],"]"))


Date of most recent update (this needs to be a formula date field)
ToDate(Left(Right([my update field],"["),9))


Who did the most recent update (formula text field type)
Trim(NotLeft(Left(Right([my update field],"["),"]"),9))
