Is it possible to inherit the related parent of a parent record when creating a new record?

I have three tables: projects, tasks (child of projects) and notes (child of tasks). When I create a report inside a project record for a list of related tasks, I'm also including an "Add Note" button for each task. When I click this button, the task name is automatically populated in the new note, but not the project name (parent of the parent). I've set up conditional formatting when creating a new note, so if I try to select the project name from my drop down it removes the task name and I have to go find it again. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

I hope I understand the question.

I guess that you are saying that you want to be able to create a note on the fly, first by selected a related project, and then selecting a related task  as a conditional drop down.

If you just want to be able to Add Note off a Task, (and not add a note just on the fly) then get rid of the conditional drop down on the Related Task for the note.

But if you do want to be able to create a note on the fly just by clicking on an Add Note button off the Note Table home page or the dashboard, then that will mean that you will in fact want to retain that Conditional drop down behaviour.

In that case you will need to modify the Add Note button on your Task record to populate the [Related Project] field on the Note.
So if the field ID for the field [Related Project] was say 20 you would have to jam in a line like

& "&_fid_99=" & ToText([Related Project])

If you think I am understanding you but you are note sure how to fix your Add Note button, then post the code from that button.
