Can't read table column headers. Shading and font colors make it unreadable.

Is this the same issue?
In Firefox, Chrome, and IE we are not seeing shading on report rows- except for the grouping and headers. This is for dashboard reports as well as embedded and common reports. We would love to have the alternate line shading back. All of the white is blinding when studying large reports and it makes it (visually) hard to separate lines of data.

Different issue - but one that I had noticed but hadn't figured out yet why it was bothering me.
HEY EVERYONE!  Want to know how it used to look??? Go to the QB help!  Screenshots galore of the old UI!  For example, here's is a picture of the alternate row shading that Heather wants back (as do I).

I think Heather's screen shot shows best how the font is blurring.

Can we change back to the blue color?  I was able to change the heading by "branding", but what about the App Tabs?  Can they be changed?

Hey Barbara,
Thanks for commenting. We're looking at solutions for the App Tabs, and incorporating branding is definitely a component of any great solution.

If you'd like to provide more feedback about enhancements we can make for branding, head over to our user voice here:

I was using Google Chrome.  I can read the headers in Microsft Edge and Explorer, but on those two, the data header fonts are black against a dark gray background and also are difficult to read.

Thank you, Sam.  I expect the new UI release bugs will be resolved soon.  As a Product Manager in a previous life, I feel your pain.

To be honest, I did not read the release notes.  I just use QuickBase and expect it to work for my needs.  But again, as a former Product Manager, I would be fuming if Project Management rolled out a release like this.  Apparently testing missed it.  I'm sure that you will agree that It shouldn't be left up to users to find this obvious of a bug.

Cheers

Greg

Greg,
I agree with your issue. You are specifically referring to Summary Reports where the letters in the colum “group by” field are black on a grey background which does not have enough contrast. That does need to be changed.

This is not an issue of just whether or not we like purple. We can’t read the column headings in Summary reports.

I am getting really tired of not being able to control the app bar/UI color at either a user or app level. How is quickbase an enterprise app if it can't be configured to follow corporate design guidelines of at least a color scheme? First, everything was shaded blue, so i had to design all of our buttons and rich text fields in our app to match the blue just to get a coherent palette on screen, even if it wasn't (our) palette. Now it's purple, so we either live with blue and purple mix, or I get to spend all day recoloring field design elements to match. The new design is a step in the right direction, but anything that forcibly faces the end user (ie app bar) that we can't control should be a design NEUTRAL color (ie white or gray, just like the rest of the forced UI) ...You like purple, fine. Just don't force it down our throats. Either make it NEUTRAL or modifiable.

Hey Justin,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the rebrand. I definitely agree we need more branding options throughout the Quick Base product. I'd hope you can share your feedback on our Uservoice portal. Here's a relevant post which I'll be using to make the case for these improvements:

I can "brand" anything within QuickBase using Service Workers and so can you.

I fully endorse and agree with you. There is a bit of a arrogance about this.  I witnessed the same when I posted a long list of things that are amiss in native QB and no one bothered to come back to me if anything can be done about those.  Resorting to user voice is another non sense which leads to nowhere and if it does, it is years before an issue is fixed.

Your font selection, the stroke of the font combined with font smoothing is horrid on high high resolution (high DPI) displays. The text is over-anti-aliased and mudded.

It's really a rookie UI mistake.

Also, fonts with drops on a capital or two (J and Q) is rather silly - messes up vertical spacing of anything with January or June, for starters.  Just keep it simple and uniform height caps.
Photo of JeanRollins

JeanRollins

  • 142 Points 100 badge 2x thumb
Totally agree with Len Mizutowicz the font selection is bad; it is even worse on a high resolution screen, making virtually all of the text difficult and tiring to read.

I hate being that guy but... $2000 a month product with (#02b8f3 - Buttons) drowned in a (#61347e + #74489d - [none customizable] Menu bar)? Not to mention the fallout I'm going to have to deal with tomorrow morning from the clash with all of my client's UIs that I built around the last Quickbase stylesheet. Look, I understand that I may be a different type of clientele than the rest of the Quickbase developer community in that I build and maintain applications for clients that expect a certain level of a professional appearance.  But please take a minute and understand my frustration with the amount of money I spend with Quickbase every month, to now being forced to have to create my own external UIs and get hit with paying even more for the increase in monthly API calls. For the thousands of dollars I spend every year  with Quickbase, it would be nice to get a little more than just a hosting server.

I would really like an option to revert to the previous color scheme/layout.  Our company name on the top bar is now a light blue on a purple background and each page feels like an exercise designed to test for color blindness.  I spend a good portion of my work day in Quickbase and I can already tell I'm going to have a headache before lunch.

Hey Megan,
I understand UI changes can be difficult, but please assure your users that all the functionality they're used to is still in the same places, it just should look a little more modern and be a bit more readable.

What would have been a good way to communicate this change ahead of time? We've been mentioning it coming in the release notes for the past two months, and it was on our blog last week. Is there another way we can reach out to you more easily?

How about what portion of every screen is being changed specifically, the color codes being used and give us the time... two weeks of a vague "lots more purple".  Really?  This is a major change for those of us who have external clients using the system and now we have to scramble to make updates...  Have you ever heard of a beta test period??

We can confirm the most common reason that users are having an issue viewing the global seach/help buttons at the top of a Quick Base application is because the Header's color has been set to white and this causes them to blend in. An Application Admin can find this setting by going into the Applications Settings and selecting the Branding header. From there you would want to change the background color on the Header. We suggest any color that isn't in the range of solid white or off white for better visibility.

For those users who are still experiencing any other visual or UI issues we do suggest that you put in a support case to help us track these issues and pass them on to our PD team. You can create a new case in Quick Base if you click Help > Manage Support Cases > + New Support Case. Thank you for your time today. Alternatively for those having issues finding the Help icon to put in a case you can also do so here:

Quick side note: The Subtitle is not vertically centered. Is this by design?

Also, the filters chosen on reports are now not sitting in the center, but aligned to the top.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. I really wanted to like this, smooth lines and nice rounder text. However, on the larger monitors that our users have, it is difficult to read reports, and the buttons are awful.

  • 1,504 Points 1k badge 2x thumb
Reports that before wrapped perfectly, now extend out further than the size of the page. When I scroll left, it keeps the left-most cell, and cuts off any text in the previous cell.
The green buttons are horrible and clash mightily with the grey/purple that has been added, and while I am ranting, what is up with the light grey and white buttons at the top? Did they test this with a usability group prior to making these changes? Was there multiple test groups that gave feedback to this? Can I see the reports that show that these are the changes users wanted and how the designers came up with this look?

@Jim, thanks for the advice on the zoom, it does seem to work for the fonts. However, am I supposed to send an email out to all of our users to tell them that to display their reports correctly, zooming in and out MAY fix any funkiness to their reports?
I think the issue here is that there are way too many bugs to our liking as developer/administrators of QB applications. This is an enterprise application that should have thought much harder about their design and the user experience associated with it prior to publication. Who did they base these changes for, and why did these bugs get put on the back burner (because I am sure that they were aware of these issues, especially since the UI changes have been talked about for a few months). And if they didn't know about the bugs, it means that they chose not to do testing when they should have.

Agreed, it's a workaround until a fix gets put in place. I'm an admin/developer too. My comment didn't excuse the many errors made by this release but hopefully aided a user to solve a problem.

On a personal note I haven't seen this level of oops in a long time, it's epic but not unheard of, Shoretel comes to mind. I'm certain they'll get it together, or not. We'll move on and accept the changes, provide our user base with workarounds and look for alternatives as the price increases. This is what it means to embrace the cloud, disruption, change, progress! Hya! :) /s

@Jim,
Please open a support case and include screen shots of the issues you're having with reports. As you probably realize, reports are often huge and contain many different customizable options. It's hard to test all those combinations beforehand, so we're doing our best to iterate improvements. We appreciate your patience.

Thanks @Jim!! It is awesome that we have this community so that we can get answers and problems (hopefully) resolved. As for the zoom thing, I think the reason this is the answer is because of the anti-aliasing styling that they went with. Seems to look sleeker the more one zooms in. As to how they are going to fix these UI errors, who know, but I definitely agree with you, this is a big oops, but it is all part of a bigger plan I am sure :)

Printing (to Adobe PDF, anyway) of reports grouped causes group header to be indented even though data rows are not. Like here: The 391 (1 Company) should be out to the left, not indented to the right.

Thanks Sam! I thought I had seen this before, but with the new changes, it seemed more apparent. Luckily we don't have many long-width reports, and minimizing the filters seem to repair most of the reports. I doubt that many of the end-users will even notice, just my UX eye that caught it haha.

Guys, we print out some reports as "Work Orders", the new styling makes the printed work orders look odd.   Any tables in the printed form have headers that are nigh unreadable.  Please fix this.

When printing with the setting for "Show Background colours" disabled, report headings are basically white on white and almost impossible to read.

Many users do not know where that setting is or why they have lost their report headings.

This applies to the printing of all table reports and as well as table reports embedded on forms.

Ha, remember how I said it was my last complaint? well I lied. this may have been occurring before, however, I can no longer export out Summary reports. When I click the More dropdown, I see double lines where before I had multiple options. I am an admin, so I have rights to all of this. Is this related to the new UI changes, or is this a change that is otherwise present? If so, I will need to push out a support ticket.

Forgot to mention in the original post:
Bear in mind this code is *slightly* modded: The icon has been turned from a simple url into a rich text field reference so I could pull down variable logos from the parent table for display, and the code to display it properly has been modified to adjusted (removed img src=) Here is the corresponding linked field formula:

You would click on where it says manage support cases in the upper left hand corner of the help dropdown. That will take you to the cases page where you can create a new case.
