Placeholder User and Dynamic Rules

Hello,

I have a form which is used as a checklist. As users complete certain steps(1,2,3,4...) they must "sign" with their name in a user field and date that step. Certain steps are sometimes not applicable. I have created a placeholder called "N/A" as one of the options for a user field. Since I cannot fill in the date as N/A I've tried creating a dynamic rule:

When 1. User is equal to "N/A". Action Hide 1. Date.

This does not seem to work and I haven't found any solutions around it. Can someone please help me?

Any reason why you can't use form rules to:

- hide the steps that are not applicable

- "Unrequire" the date / user fields for steps that are not applicable?

You can also add a "N/A" checkbox next to each step - that the user can check if that step is in fact N/A.  Then you can use the checkbox to trigger form rules (to hide the step, etc.)

-Sometimes the steps are applicable, while other times they are not applicable. It depends on the situation.
- None of my fields are considered "required", but in order for my form completion progress percentage field to calculate correctly all user fields must be filled out.

We are trying to make our paper forms as closely related to quickbase as possible.  I thought about the checkbox solution but it would involve more confusion for the end user.  What I've done has been create a dummy user named "N/A" with a separate email so now I can create the dynamic rule I need.
Thank you
