Is there a way to add a field in a Master table that shows the value from a details type table without a primary key linking them?

I want to add a field in a table that shows the value from another table on all records. E.g. Table A has Environment|Status field with many records.  Table B has Status field with 1 record with a drop down for "Active" or "Inactive".  If I change table B value to Active, I want all records in table A to show "Active" in status field.  Are there any ideas?

Why not just link the tables?  If there is only one record in Table B, then you know it's Record ID#. For  example it may be record ID number 1. In that case you can set up a reference field in your detail tables of a numeric formula field with the formula of a 1 and make the relationship based on that field and then look up the value in the Record ID 1 down to all the detail records. Or is your situation more complicated than that?
