In my table's advanced settings, I see this option:

Save parent record automatically when a child record is created. Learn more

Learn more doesn't provide any detail about this specific function. I've searched for help with it with no results.

I checked the box on tables with and without a parent and it saved without error or dialog box. Seems strange.

I'm interested in using such a function if it is native, I'm also curious if it would do some sort of checking for duplicates if the creation involves a key field other than the record id.

When regular users are creating a parent record, their normal mental workflow may be to enter some parent fields and then while still in Add mode also click on the button to Add Child.  They feel like its just all part of data entry of creating the setup for a new record.

For example they are setting up a new Customer and while still in Add mode and not yet saved, they click to Add Contact, where 1 Customer has many Contacts.  If that chechbox is checked, then QuickBase will auto save the Parent  and present the Add Contact form to the User..

If the checkbox is not checked, then there will be a dialogue asking the user if they want to Save the Company before navigating away to add child.  In their inifinite wisdom, this was a recent new feature added to QuickBase because in the example I gave above, it's stupid to ask the user if they want to save their data entry for the Company before adding a child.  Of course they do, so why ask.
